ABOUT 

Emily Ranford is an Australian contemporary dance artist based in Berlin, working between Europe and Australia.

 

Emily grew up in Perth, Western Australia and moved to Melbourne where she studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Dance in 2009. She also studied a Diploma of Pilates with National Pilates Training/Pilates International in Melbourne in 2011.

 

Emily has worked on a variety of projects in Melbourne and Sydney with artists Rebecca Jensen, Brooke Stamp, Sarah Aiken, Natalie Abbott, Deep Soulful Sweats, Shian Law, Carlee Mellow, 2ndToe Dance Collective, Phillip Adams, Rennie McDougall, and Opera Australia. 

 

In 2013 Emily received the danceWEB Scholarship in Vienna, and after recieving a travel grant from the Ian Potter Cultural Trust, she relocated to Berlin in 2014. Emily has since collaborated with artists including Bogdan Licar, Julian Weber, Rebecca Jensen, Rasmus Olme, Alexandra Pirici, Michael Mueller, Boris Charmatz, Bilwa Costa, Jasmin Schiatl, Mårten Spångberg, Indigo Dance (PAF) Veronique Langlott, Tarren Johnson, Rachell Clark, Felix Ott, Dmitry Paranyushkin, Diego Agullo and The Royal Opera London. These projects have taken her from Berlin to Zürich, Venice, Prague, Ostrava, Frankfurt, St Erme, and Hamburg.

 

Emily’s choreographic and improvisational interests are based in form and state. She works deeply with physicality and emotionality; with her collaborations crossing borders of visual art and dance practices. In 2018 Emily received the Einstiegsförderung from the Berlin Senate. Her works have been shown at Dock11 Berlin, Ada Studio, Uferstudios, 3AM Flutgraben, Mime Centrum and Lake Studios.
